My father Neville Hudson (who has retired from Gratnells) has been presented with an award for Outstanding Achievement at the National Education Resources Awards. The Education Resources Awards acknowledge excellence in education and the winners were announced at a dinner held at the National Motorcycle Museum in the West Midlands last month during the Education Show.

Mr Hudson said: “Over the years we have produced more than 35 million trays and supplied our storage system to science departments in the majority of UK schools. I feel greatly honoured in receiving this award from the UK education industry and would like to thank those who have helped us on our way.”

Dominic Savage, director general of British Educational Suppliers Association said: “Neville and his father formed Gratnells in 1971, operating from a small London factory. Over the past 40 years the work of Neville and his team have established an extraordinary customer base in the UK and in more than 68 countries across the world. Neville’s work and his commitment to the highest quality standards and his contribution to the education sector makes this award so well deserved.”

Mad Fat Gratnells Trolleys

We were pleased to spot another one of our products in a TV show again recently. In Channel 4’s My Mad Fat Teenage Diary, lead character Rae was seen visiting her mother in hospital – and what was in the background only one of our medical 501 trolleys. You can still catch the series on 4OD.

You can find out more about the programme which follows the adventures of music mad teenager Rae on the Channel 4 site.

How to make classroom furniture look amazing

I was pleased to meet Johan van Ballekom recently at the ToyFair and he gave me a copy of a beautiful book he has just edited.  The book is a coffee table style catalogue for Dutch furniture maker Klassehout which is sold by Reinders. The book is absolutely stunning, featuring fantastic photography and is one of the nicest presentations of school furniture I have ever seen, with beautiful classroom sets and some great models.

It’s inspired me to get thinking about next year’s Gratnells brochure and start planning some creative photo shoots.
