Musings from the Education show in Birmingham.

Jo sitting comfortably.

The Education Show in Birmingham is always a busy time with new products to be launched and gossip to be exchanged. It was great to see Jo Miller of Twoey Toys with one of the first showings of our new Quadrant tray. An excellent new corner unit was put on display which is bound to be popular. On the Ed Show ‘fringe’ Mark Barnett, the boss of The Consortium, was there to give his now annual speech to suppliers to the industry. It’s refreshing that such an important catalogue makes a concerted effort to get its message across. Behind the scenes the top staff at The Consortium had been trying to buy the ailing Devon catalogue, which closed in January, with no success.

Another theme at the show was the growing popularity of outdoor leaning at schools. Norseman Direct had a fantastic stand with half the contents of a garden centre. Their ‘instant’ gardens look to be a hit in 2011 and it’s worth visiting their website.

More thoughts to come.

We’re ready if you are.

Storage a go-go
Gratnells is ready and waiting to see you at the Education show in Birmingham. I will be there along with our resident storage experts David Moore and Tony Baron. I can give you an exclusive peek of the new Quadrant tray as I have some of the very first samples for you to touch and feel. Also there is a first look at our ArtStack range for school art rooms and art areas. The show which runs at the NEC on March 17th-19th is the premier education show in the UK. Also at the show we will be unveiling the first look at our Learning Rooms project which aims to help teachers organise their classrooms. Much more later. See you in Brum, we’re on stand A35

Getting the top job.

I was delighted to be nominated as the new chairman of the BESA British Furniture Manufacturers Group (BEFMG) for the next two years until 2013. David Jevons from British Thornton has successfully steered the group until his retirement from the company this year.  Will Hinks, the Managing Director from the highly regarded Metalliform was nominated as vice-chairman.  The group comprises of representatives from leading school furniture manufacturers (surprise , surprise) and we meet at least four times a year to discuss the market and how we can better service British schools. If you are a member of BESA (British Educational Suppliers Association) and would like to join us we would be delighted to hear from you. The first point of contact is Mark Rosser at BESA on markr@besa.org.uk . We will all miss David Jevons’ end-of-meeting joke as I am not sure mine are up to the job.

If you’re going to a trade show and would like to demonstrate the Gratnells tray system you can take this display unit which we have designed for exhibition stands. It clearly shows the four heights of tray, lids and inserts that are at the heart of the Gratnells system. We’re happy to provide this unit to trade customers free of charge along with leaflets and tray labels in any language to help you get our message across.
